Forum Title: Best Cedar Shake Finish
Hello folks, I'm bidding a job that involves painting cedar shakes that were installed last summer. Client wants an opaque finish in Dragon's Breath, a dark grey. My prep will be sand and BM Long Oil Primer, but I'd like some suggestions on topcoat. Solid stain for supposed breath-ability, or paint for a thicker film and more durability? These shakes are under a porch roof and will rarely experience rain, but they do get blasted with morning sun until early afternoon. Thanks for your responses!

Can't you just use Solid stain? I would think oil priming and using a solid stain is pointless.
